Team
Design
Majority of the systems in our boat are designed and fabricated by the team. We design electrical systems such as motor controllers and control systems as well as mechanical systems such as our gearbox, drivetrain and hull.
Fabrication
We employ a variety of fabircation techniques in our boat. From composites to CNC machining, we are always trying new fabrication methods on our boat.
Systems
Systems on the boat are highly integrated with each other. Feedback is essential for our boat's operations. We employ many systems such as GPS, Position, Tachometer, Temprature and many others.

"I am the current President of the Stony Brook Solar Boat Club. I joined the club as a freshman and immediately began working on the digital electronics aspects of the boat. First working on communications I moved on to work on the motor controller and now I am working on the systems on a boat as a whole integrating everything. I am no machinist, but I know my way around a mill and lathe and have extensive welding experience. I enjoy teaching others and I aspire to be one day a professor so that I can share my knowledge with others. You can view much of my work on my blog at www.mcuplace.com "

"I am the Vice President of the solar boat team. I have been a member of the Solar Boat team for two years. Throughout those two years I have learned a lot while helping build the previous boats. It is now my job to make sure that this year’s boat is completed in time. I will be leading my team with the task of redesigning the powertrain of the boat, hoping to improve performance and increase efficiency from the previous design."

"I have been a member of the Solar Boat team since its inception in my freshman year. I had very little knowledge of the engineering profession when I joined, but the motto of the team has always been to teach members every skill necessary to excel in the professional field. I can personally attest to this statement, having learned a whole boatload of skills and knowledge necessary that have been instrumental in my growth as an engineer. I have machined parts used on the boat, helped fiberglass the hull, and as the secretary I try to keep the team running as efficiently as possible"

"I am a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I joined the club in my freshman year and it has been a very good experience ever since. I usually work on fabrication of the hull and other sub-systems. I am learning and working out my way with electronics and I hope that some day I work on the electrical systems too"
