Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 - 2011 Solar Splash Event!

The Stony Brook Solar Boat Team successfully competed the 2011 Solar Splash at George Wyth State Park, Iowa.

We also won an award for 'The Outstanding Electrical System Design'. The competition was very intense this year.

With a new E-Board this year, we have been laying out plans this summer for next year's competition.

We are still meeting in our shop and we have been discussing about ideas for a new boat.





Tuesday, 31 May 2011 - Christening of the boat

Today we christened the boat. We are also getting prepared to go to competition.

The boat is nearly finished except for the wiring which will be completed tomorrow and

powered testing will be done soon.



Monday, 11 April 2011 - Progress!

We have been working hard the past months and we have some work we'd love to share with you!

The back end of the boat is now fiber-glassed and we are starting to mount our gearbox and drive train into the boat.

Assembly on the front end has started and we are going to be fiber-glassing that soon.

Our motor controller boards have been mostly assembled, we are just waiting on bus bars to begin testing.

We will be working hard over the spring break to finalize the boat and get it ready for competition.

1500 Amp Motor Controller - The workhorse of the boat, at 36v, max power is 54 KW.

500 Amp Motor Controller - More compact design, more efficient.

H-Bridge Motor Controller - More traditonal design.

Standard Shield - Allows UART communications, has headers for sensors.

TX Shield - Xbee PRO and Fibre Optic links.

Friday 11 February 2011 - Progress!

We've been working hard over the past week. The gearbox is finishing assembly, the frame is half way complete and we are due to expect our motor controller printed circuit boards next week. Check out all of our progress in the showcase!


Tuesday 1 February 2011 - Major Site Update!

It has been a long while since we've updated the website. Despite that, we've been busy over the past year and half redesigning a new boat for this year's competition.

Some of the highlights of the new boat are:

-Aluminum tube frame with fiberglass skin

-Custom designed 1500 amp motor controller

-Redesigned coaxial gearbox

This year we are looking to improve greatly on our mistakes from last competition and to have a blast while doing it. We have some great stuff instore for those who have patiently waited. Please, check out some of the great progess we've made below.


Thursday 4 June 2009 - 2009 Solar Splash Event

The Stony Brook Solar Boat Team has successfully competed in the 2009 Solar Splash Competition. We had loads of fun competing with some great teams at Lake Fayetteville Arkansas. We have some great ideas for next year to make our boat even better. We will be working hard this summer preparing for the fall semester. Wednesday 20 August 2008 - Welcome to the Team's New Website

The Solar Boat team's new website is ready. The purpose of the website is to enable the team to communicate and reach out to the community and its sponsors. Start exploring some of the website's features:

  • Team: Learn about the team members and our goals. Read our mission and plan of action.
  • Sponsors: Our sponsors enable this team to achieve greatness. Learn about what they are doing to help us, and find out how your company can sponsor the Stony Brook University CEAS Solar Boat Team.
  • Forum: Register for an account today, and check the forum regularly for announcements and team discussion. There is a forum for each department to facilitate technical discussion between meetings.
  • Showcase: Check out the team, and videos of our progress. When we have a finished product, the showcase will be full of photos and videos of the boat, competition and marketing materials.

Students

The team is just getting started and we are still seeking talent. We are looking for anyone in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, as well as anybody that is interested in business and marketing.
